Head Bartender

Position:         Head Bartender                            Reports To:         Front of the House Manager

Job Type:        FT, Regular, Hourly                      Location:             Lakewood, NY (Western NYS)

Job Description Summary:

Provide timely, accurate and friendly service while delivering the highest quality experience to our guests.  Be an integral part of educating our customers on STBC beer & brand knowledge.  The Head Bartender is also responsible for training new bar staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take beverage orders from guests in a timely professional manner
  • Present drink menus, make recommendations and answer questions regarding beverages
  • Be able to educate customers on our beer style and company history
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks consistent with the Restaurant’s standard drink offerings
  • Prepare garnishes for drinks, if applicable
  • Change kegs as necessary; retrieve from cooler
  • Train new employees on procedures, beer styles and general bar operations
  • Promote specials, events and new beer releases on our Social Media venues
  • Know the names and be able to personally recognize regular customers; always provide excellent hospitality
  • Record drink orders accurately and immediately after receipt in to the register system
  • Accept guest payment , process credit card charges and make change (if applicable) accurately
  • Wash and sterilize glassware
  • Maintain bottles and glasses in an attractive and functional manner to support efficient drink preparation and promotion of beverages
  • Maintain cleanliness in all areas of each bar and restrooms including counters, sinks, utensils, shelves, floors and storage areas.
  • Receive and serve food orders to guests
  • Report all equipment problems and bar maintenance issues to manager on duty
  • Assist the restocking and replenishment of bar inventory and supplies
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the management
  • Clear and wash tables in bar area
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when in the production areas
  • Assist management as needed

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities – Our Bartending Staff must possess:

  • Have above average communication skills; any foreign language skills are a plus
  • Have a basic knowledge of beer and wine styles, ingredients and facts
  • Possess basic math skills (arithmetic) and have the ability to handle money and operate a Point of Sale (POS/Cash Register) System
  • Be able to multi-task and maintain a positive attitude
  • Be able to take direction and think big picture
  • Be a dependable team player with a passion for craft beer and serve amazing food

Minimum Education &/or Experience required:

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Prior experience working in a high volume restaurant / establishment is a plus
  • Cicerone Certified Beer Server certificate is a plus

Physical Demands – Our Bartending Staff must be able to:

  • Consistently stand for the duration of the shift (up to 10 hours), walk, bend over, twist, kneel, climb, stoop and crouch.
  • This position requires the ability to routinely and repeatedly lift up to 55 pounds
  • Use their hands to perform fine manipulation, handle or feel, and must be able to reach with hands and arms

Work Environment:

  • Due to the nature of our business, staff serving beer must be 21 year of age or older at STBC
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a warm environment. When going through the production area to the coolers, be aware of moving machinery.  The noise level in the work environment can be very loud.
